The role:

We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to be based in our Sutton, South London office. You’ll be working in a new global team of specialist engineers within a fast paced highly dynamic group, committed to continuous improvement and adoption of best practices.

Systems Engineering is a newly formed central team, its purpose being a centre of excellence within the Infrastructure and Operations group, promoting automation and the DevOps culture. Thesuccessful candidate will need to hit the ground running, with a proven track record in either systems/software engineering or DevOps and have a clear idea of what skills need to be gained tobe truly effective in this hybrid role.

This position performs moderately difficult research, design, and systems engineering assignments and also responds to system management alerts to handle system/operations exceptions, within the assigned enterprise systems of product offerings. Additionally, this position isalso responsible for triage change management support.

Technical skills:

•AWS (EC2, S3, Cloudwatch, ELK)

•Git, Bitbucket orcode repository

•Kubernetes + Terraform, or Puppet

•Scripting (PowerShell, Bash)

•Appreciation for security (best practice and tools)

•CentOS or Redhat Linux OS


•Cloud- AWS/Azure

•Monitoring and logs management



•Change management.

•Strong Networking Knowledge (DNS, ALB and nginx)

•Understanding of storage systems, Linux kernel, UNIX kernel, UNIX file system, and Windows infrastructure.

•Program installation andtroubleshooting.

•Knowledge of virtual server environments and thin client.

•Knowledge of scripts for automation.

•Understanding of system and problem management tools.

•Problem solving.

•Good oral and written communication skills.


•Demonstrate thorough understanding of major system components in completing assigned tasks (i.e., storage systems, Linux kernel, UNIX kernel, UNIX file system, and Windows infrastructure).

•Manage and support existing and new CI/CD Pipeline (jobs, builds) and their associated test environments.

•Apply development changes on production where applicable.

•Diagnose problems with application programs, common system, or systematic questioningtechniques.

•Configure controls; install or troubleshoot programs within multiple system environments.

•Help improve the automation of the build, unit and integration tests with the development and QA team.

•Provide prompt recovery and problem escalationfor the exceptions, extrapolating and integrating information within defined boundaries, using multiple system management and problem management tools.

•Partner closely with development groups, support groups, and vendors to coordinate special operations, and communicate/escalate problems as appropriate to meet assigned deadlines.

•Work closely with support groups to refine system monitoring and reporting, andto assist them in their analysisand problem recovery.

•Apply problem-solving skills in multiple operating environments to support assignments involving the execution of a series of related tasks.

•Demonstrate knowledge of system components in completing assigned tasks (i.e., storage systems, Linux kernel, UNIX kernel, UNIX file system, and Windows infrastructure).

•Diagnose system performance problems.

•Perform online system functions to assist with tasks encountered in execution of daily responsibilities such as utility functions andediting of files.

•Develop lists/scripts for execution of commonly used processes and automation of simple tasks.

•Proper implementation of team changes and service requests.

•Proper creation, execution, documentation, and closure of tasks, changes, and requests.

Technologyis a central part of the ICIS business. The technology team provides the online products and systems to collect and distribute ICIS data to our global audience. We also create innovative sources of new insight – for example modelling of power demands, processing of European gas flows or tracking/predicting in real-time worldwide ship movements. We use modern technologies, work almost exclusively in the cloud and focus on agile development approaches.
